4811 ON STRIKE
The UAW 4811 contract expires December 31st. So far, the university has not budged on critical issues, such as protections for international students and non-residents. As academic student employees, our power to win such demands comes from our labor. By threatening to withhold our labor, we can put pressure on the university to come to an agreement. This cannot be an idle threat: If contract negotiations fail, we must be prepared to strike. In other words, there is no strike threat without strike prep.
If we want to win a contract that will protect our community, increase our wages and benefits, and divest from weapons manufacturing, then we need to start preparing for a strike now.
